With a resume sporting an 18-year international professional career and an impressive record as a college head coach, Bernie Fagan holds an enviable position in this soccer-crazy town. For over 20 years, he's been the summertime Pied Piper of soccer for thousands of kids eager to become the next generation of Soccer City USA, a title Portland, Oregon earned in the 1970's. English-born and bred, Bernie's team won the prestigious FA Youth Cup, earning him an invitation to a professional career in England. He later played in the North American Soccer League and finished his professional playing career as a fan favorite with the Portland Timbers.
With dozens of summer camps, training clinics, and league matches, Bernie clearly needs help, so he employs former professional players, college and high school coaches, and college players. Bernie's affection for Portland led him to develop roots in the Rose City, where he quickly became a highly successful college coach. In 1984, he began developing his popular Bernie Fagan Soccer camps, which now teach and nurture over 800 kids from ages 5 to 13 each summer. Bernie is also the head coach of the Oregon Soccer Academy, a premier soccer club that develops advanced 10 to 17 year-old boys and girls.
